The fitness center expansion is a project that over doubles the size of the current fitness center. The bottom floor will become entirely weightlifting, with cardio equipment and a multipurpose room on the second floor. The multipurpose room will be available to reserve like the existing multipurpose rooms, but will also have programming such as cycling classes. This renovation relocate and update the main entrance to not only the fitness center, but Gale Bullman as a whole. The new Fitness Center entrance will have card swipe turnstile access like what you see in metropolitan train stations. The entrance will be set back a few feet into the center so that there is front desk access if there is an issue with your ID. The budget for the expansion is approximately $4 million, with about $500k going to new equipment for the fitness center. Additionally be on the lookout for extended hours (now open until 10:45pm on weekdays) both now and when the expansion is complete.
Please feel free to fill out a Say Anything Form, or email Madison Moore, Kaeden Kessinger, or Scottie Thomas if you have any questions regarding the fitness center expansion or suggestions for new equipment.
This is an exterior view of the Fitness Center, the glass area directly to the right of the stone is where the current entrance is to the Fitness Center. What is labelled as the entrance in this photo is the recessed area where you would enter the recreational basketball courts from the south.
This is the view from the existing part into the expansion, the finishings you see here are not reflective of what you will see with the finished product. All of the cardio equipment will be moved to the second floor to make more room for additional weight lifting equipment.
Floor 1 addition
This would be the view from the expansion looking into the older part of the fitness center. The expansion will be a few steps down from the existing part so that there's proper head clearance with the squat racks. The finishings (paint, flooring etc.) are not what you will see they are just place holders. Important things in this photo are the five squat racks on the right side which will be sunk into the floor.
This is the multipurpose room that will be available for reservation and regular programming such as cycling. A few groups have asked about the size of this and it spans the majority of the addition so clubs like Taekwondo won't have a problem practicing there if they so choose.
Floor 2 addition
This is the cardio area of the addition, this makes room for 15 - 20 more pieces of cardio equipment in front of the multipurpose room.
