Goals

As STUCO President, I aspire to enhance the communication of the entire campus, from administration down to the students, which will reveal more of the systemic issues that students face day to day, allowing them to be addressed and ameliorated. Some notable examples I intend to tackle include the lack of accountability within S&T maintenance with work orders and the difficulty in accessing financial information (tuition pricing breakdowns and refund failures in Student Financial Assistance). Brick by brick on our path of progress, I also endeavor to advocate for changes that enhance students' quality of life here at S&T. For example, cost-free student ID renewal while including the ID number on the front or emboldening the beautification and functionality of student common areas on campus. The goal is to make S&T’s campus, and the life we all live upon it, more enjoyable through avenues of change, small and large. My ambition, however, goes further than my own conceptions. Through the enhancement of communication on campus, I look forward to the opportunity to poll, survey, speak, and synthesize the voices of the student body in order to reflect the desires of each and every one of you. When the tomorrow we are solving for comes, we, working collectively together, will shine brighter than the sun.

What makes you the best candidate for this position?

Fundamentally, I am someone who cares. As it has been said before, “Some men see the world as it is and ask ‘Why?’. Others see the world as it could be and ask ‘Why Not?’”, and I will always ask “Why Not?”. I insist upon finding the path towards our ideals, even if it means following a path less traveled, whether it be for the difficulty or the innovation required to see it. As a community oriented leader in different organizations, I have ran charity and community outreach events to great success trying to make an impact here at S&T and also beyond, reaching into Rolla. My time in STUCO as well has shown me how many opportunities we have to make change. Working as the Leadership Development Lead in STUCO showed me the shared passion each one of the executive members and in the committee I ran, along with how to aid in transforming ambition into action, and currently as the Vice President of Engagement and Outreach in STUCO, those skills are being honed even further. My mindset is collaborative. We will thrive through the strengths of each person being enabled to flourish, and I intend on continuing to be the water on that vine of growth towards progress.

Proposition A: Student Fee Increase

On January 28th, 2025, Student Council passed the Student Activity Fee Increase Act. This fee increase is significant enough to require it to be put to a referendum for approval. Read the details of Bill no. 2425B4 by clicking here. Changes will take effect in the Fall Semester of 2025.

The following changes can be expected if approved:

  1. Complete replacement of the flooring in the lower gyms of the Gale-Bullman Multipurpose Building.
  2. Elimination of fees for students, non-varsity student sports, and student organizations using and reserving athletic facilities.
  3. Two new student-funded staff positions in the Well-Being office, likely to be one counselor and either a second counselor or a case worker.
  4. Additional funding provided to Athletics for the maintenance of equipment in the Student Fitness Center and Gale-Bullman Center.
  5. Funding to replace cameras in the Testing Center.
  6. Allocate recurring funding to the Student Capital Improvement Fund, which will be used on student-submitted campus improvement projects through a student-centered approval process.
  7. Divide the Havener Activity Fee into the Havener Operations Fee (70%) and Student Involvement Fee (30%). Both fees will be adjusted by inflation each year.
  8. Transfer 35% of the non-inflation adjusted Havener Capital Fee to the Havener Operations Fee (inflation adjusted).
  9. Increase of the Student Activity Fee by approximately $29-$30 in addition to the regular yearly adjustment for inflation.

If not approved:

  1. The Student Activity Fee will only be increased by the normal inflationary amount.
  2. Some of the above projects may be placed in a low-priority state, or may not be implemented.

Commitments from administration regardless of approval:

  1. Prioritization of and commitment from administration to a project in Havener Center to renovate the Park Quiet Lounge. This project is currently in the space analysis phase.
  2. Prioritization of and commitment from administration to a project in Havener Center to establish a student-use technology and gaming lounge in Havener Center. This project is currently in the early planning phase, and will likely utilize space from The S&T Store.
  3. Commitment from administration to renovate outdoor spaces by providing additional Wi-Fi and electrical capabilities in addition to increased seating for student use.

Current Student Activity Fee: $664.03

Estimated Fee if Approved: $708.95
Estimated Fee if Rejected: $679.43

* all amounts for full-time undergraduates
** estimates are for an expected inflationary rate of 2.9%
